Abstract:

Pink bollworm, Pectinophora gossypiella(Saunders) a pest of cotton having nationalimportance, recently became serious on BG II cottonhybrids, causing damage from flowering stage onwardsby feeding on anthers and pollen and living in a sort ofweb. Such flowers are characteristically twisted in theform of rose called as rosette flower. Later the larvaebore into the green bolls, and further burrow into maturebolls through the lint penetrating deep into seeds. Whenone seed is destroyed, the larvae tunnel and entersthrough the developing lint and migrates to anotherseed and similarly to locules. The affected bolls rot andshed, while those retained on plants open prematurelyresulting in stained immature fibre, causing 80 percentreduction in seed cotton yield and quality of lint(Henneberry and Clayton 1986).
