Abstract:

Genetic diversity represents the heritablevariation within and between populations ofaccessions. The success of plant breeding dependson the available genetic variability both indigenous aswell as exotic to cater to the need of various farmingsituations of rice. Higher grain production is the primarytrait targeted for the improvement of rice productivity inboth favourable and unfavourable environments fromits present level. Knowledge of the genetic architectureof genotypes is necessary to formulate efficient breedingmethodology. It is essential to find out the relativemagnitude of additive and non additive geneticvariances, heritability, and genetic gain about thecharacters of concern to the breeder.
