    Brief Profile: Dr. R. Vijaya Kumari is currently Professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics, College of Agriculture, Rajendranagar. She has Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from ANGRAU. She is life member of Indian Society of Agricultural Economics, Indian Society of Agricultural Marketing, Agricultural Economics and Research Association, Journal of Research PJTSAU and The Andhra Agricultural Union. She has 20 years of experience in research and teaching in the field of agricultural economics.

    She studied the economic performance of newly introduced genetically modified Bt cotton hybrids in Northern Telangana Zone continuously for four years (2002-03 to 2005-06) and facilitated in formulating necessary guidelines for extension of area under high yielding authorized Bt cotton hybrids and taking necessary steps to discourage the entry of spurious seed into the markets of the zone. Under consultancy to District Water Management Agency evaluated 57 watersheds in Karimnagar district and developed action plan for their management. Monitored and evaluated Innovation in Technology Dissemination (ITD) component under NATP in ATMA district, Adilabad from 2002 to 2004. She worked in two international collaborative projects of the University i.e., ‘Land water ecosystem management’ in sub-catchment of Krishna River from Nargarjuna Sagar to Prakasam Barrage in collaboration with Alterra-ILRI, Wageningen, The Netherlands and Indo US AKI Project on “Sustainable Water Resource Management”.

    She was a member of the Agricultural Marketing Reforms Committee 2014 constituted by Government of Telangana and involved in preparation of the Report of the same published by Department of Agricultural Marketing, Government of Telangana. Involved in ‘Network Project on Market Intelligence’ funded by ICAR from 2014 to 2017. Established ‘Agricultural Marketing Intelligence Centre’ in the university with the financial support of State Government and has been involved in developing and disseminating price forecasts of major agricultural commodities produced in the state for the last five years.

    She guided nine (9) M.Sc (Ag) students as major advisor to complete their degrees by doing innovative research works like economic impact of micro irrigation technologies, micro financing through self-help groups, SRI cultivation of paddy, cotton and red gram value chains, integrated crop management in chilli, farm mechanization, integrated farming systems and agricultural insurance.

    She published more than 50 research papers in reputed national and international journals and presented around 30 research papers in national and international conferences besides authoring certain book chapters, research reports and teaching and practical manuals.

    She has been presented Sri Mocherla Dattatreyulu Endowment Award for significant contribution in the field of rural indebtedness for the year 2008.
